The Steady Hand
on July 27, 2012 at 12:00 amDear Reader, if you’re asking yourself “who’s this lady with the steady hand?” then allow me, through the magic of hyperlinks, to point you toward her first appearance here and then later here. The plot, it thickens.
Now, since we won’t be seeing each other over the weekend, I wanted to leave you a little something to pass the time—I mean, it’s not like the Olympics can compare to a thrice-weekly web-based comic about a hapless—and oftentimes nauseous—teenager who’s involved in a (perhaps unhealthy) relationship with a character out of Shakespeare. It’s cute how that Danny Boyle tries, isn’t it?
Anyway, what I’m talking about is The Thrilling Adventure Hour. What is it? Think old-time, Fire-side Chat radio, but hilarious and without all the (droning on and on) Great Depression talk. Yes, a load of bread cost $20, but we have the internet now! Huzzah for the future!
So, to recap—it’s a podcast and it’s perfect, so check it out. I’m particularly fond of the “Beyond Belief” segment:
Meet Frank and Sadie Doyle: the toast of the upper crust. Headliners on the society pages. And, oh yes, they see ghosts. Trading quips and tossing back cocktails, the Doyles take what they want and hoodwink their clientele for the rest. Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, mummies, even diabolical gingerbread men are nothing but obstacles in the way of the liquor cabinet for our fast-talking, hard-drinking sleuths.
Think Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald as boozy ghostbusters. Frank is played by the great, the incomparable, the genius Paul F. Tompkins (can you tell I’m a fan?) and Sadie is played by the lovely and talented and equally as great, Paget Brewster.
Do yourself a favor and DL a few episodes this weekend!
‘Til Monday!
